Meet the Staff and our History

History

Evans & Co was established in 1994 upon the deamalgamation of the practice of Evans Robson. That firm was itself a merger of two practices: Cockburn & Evans established in 1978 and T.Robson established in approximately 1984.

Staff Profiles

Robert George Evans.

Robert George Evans was admitted in 1974 having served articles with Nicholson Martin & Wilkinson in Stanley, Co. Durham. At conclusion of articles he joined Polytechnic of Newcastle now Northumbria University. Whilst lecturing, the opportunity arose to practice initially part time. He still retains a small degree of teaching part time at Northumbria University.

His specialities are probate wills trusts taxation and advice for the elderly.

He is a member of STEP and served on the local committee until recently. STEP operates to bring together all practioners in probate and trusts, including accountants and solicitors with the hope that they will eventually become the recognised professional body when and if the recommendations of The Clementi Report are implemented. From a training perspective the group provide monthly lectures in specialist areas.

He is a regular contributor to Butterworths Elderly Client /Probate bulletin and this is published 3 times per year.

He has a personal interest in IT and has developed the practice case management system.

He manages Ferryhill Office and provides cover at Spennymor Office during holidays and illness.

Christina Margaret Bond.

Christina Margaret Bond was admitted in 1977 having served with Marion Norrie & Bowler in Sheffield North Yorkshire.

She practised until 1978 when she was appointed as a Lecturer at Newcastle Polytechnic (now Northumbria University) She began to practise with what is now Evans & Co in 1980 and has been a partner since 1988.She continues to lecture as a senior Lecturer in Family Law and Mental Health Law at Northumbria University.

Since 1983 she has been associated with Ilex Tutorial Service Ltd being their subject advisor in Family Law and Family Practice. For a number of years she edited their manuals and was an examiner for Institute of Legal Executives from 1993-1996.

From 1993 to present she has been a co- author of A Practical Approach To Family Law (Black Bridge & Bond, Oxford University Press) and Legal Practice Guide to Family Law (OUP).

From 1993-1999 she served on the Mental Health Commission and in 2001 was appointed deputy district judge on the northeastern circuit.

In 2001 she was appointed as a member of the Law Society family Law Committee and assisted in the drafting of Cohabitation Bill.

Her specialities include divorce and ancillary matters, children and associated work.

Christina Bond is based at Spennymoor Office.

Debra Ann Swinburn.

Debra Ann Swinburn served a period of articles with T.Robson and was admitted in 1992. Initially employed as an assistant solicitor with Evans Robson became a partner in 1994 at the inception of Evans & Co.

She initially covered a very general range of legal work associated with high street practice including inter alia matrimonial crime and litigation.

She has developed an interest in training has studied and completed a PGCE in post 16 Education and Training, having previously completed City & Guilds 7407 part 1 and 2. She has also undertaken training provided for the Institute of Leadership & Management.

She serves as a Community Governor at a local Nursery and Primary school.

Responsibilities include the management of Spennymoor Office, Staff Partner, Training and Marketing.

She now specialises in property, both domestic and commercial conveyancing, litigation and licensing work. She was involved in advising a number of licencees in the recent licensing changes.

Based at Spennymoor Office but covers Ferryhill Office when required for holidays and illness.
