Reflections on a Business Administration Apprenticeship

I am currently undertaking the Business Administration Level 2 Apprenticeship in conjunction with work-based learning at Evans & Co Solicitors.

My apprenticeship involves doing lots of assignments and reflective accounts all based around business administration. I am required to complete 7 hours per week ‘on the job’ training to develop and learn new skills and I keep a record of this in my training log.

So far, I have found the course very rewarding as it has given me the opportunity to develop my skills in a working environment, especially my speaking, listening, and reading skills.

My job role mainly involves handling the incoming and outgoing post, scanning and photocopying documents and putting them onto the correct electronic and paper file, opening new files, closing completed files, speaking to clients on the telephone and making appointments, sending letters and emails, and taking payments over the telephone using a card machine. I am now confident within my job role and believe that I could use my skills in day-to-day life and within any other job roles, I may have in the future.

There are so many ways in which the apprenticeship has increased my confidence. I am now more confident on the telephone and have developed my understanding of case management and diary systems. I have familiarised myself with key legislation that all types of businesses must be aware of, including the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

This apprenticeship has helped my career ambitions as in the future I would like to pursue a career in law, and maybe even become a solicitor myself. By doing this apprenticeship at Evans & Co, I now have a further understanding of what it is like working in the industry and the work that different types of solicitors must do.

I would recommend that anyone considering an apprenticeship, must make sure that the apprenticeship is going to be rewarding for their future. I would advise carrying out research to check that the apprenticeship is going to develop the skills in a way that benefits the individual so they can obtain the for their future career path.
